I installed some new wiper blades at 6 a.m., in the dark, at -22 degrees celcius. It sucked.

I'm sure that nice rover heater afterwards made everything better

Had to get custom shafts made up. This is a Series front salisbury but it's wider than a stock series axle. I couldn't find shafts anywhere so I had Moser make some up. One of them fits just fine into the ARB diff, the other one won't go it. Based on the measurements, I think I just need them to take a little off the outside diameter of the 24 spline end at the diff. The minor diameter seems to be ok and the outer end fits in the 23 spline CV just fine.

Ahh..OK. Missed shafts and thought you meant a front propshaft.

would these shafts be compatible with the stage 1 front axle?

That's a good question. All my part numbers from the swivel ball out are the same as a Stage 1 including the elusive/expensive Stage 1 CV joints.

Having said that I think my axle is wider over all. The inner shafts are 24 spline at the diff and 23 spline at the CV. Which i think is the same as the Stage 1. If you could find the measurements for the stage 1 shafts you can make that determination. Mine are 29 5/16" on the long side and 19 7/16" on the short side, this is just for the inner shaft with the CV joint removed.

Here's the run down on what Moser charged:
                Shafts $370
                Shaft Machining $70
                Snap ring groove machining $25
Plus shipping $30.36 (from Indiana to Maryland)
Total was just under $500 and I had them beef it up a bit to get rid of the center neck down area of the shaft which also saved on machining costs.
This was for two shafts(1 long side and 1 short side)

BTW, I'm going to try and run the 2522 CV joints and see how it works out. The 1828 CVs are just getting waaay to expensive and hard to find.

let me know how that works out, I would be very interested.

The 90 degree thermostat I installed 2 weeks ago made it tolerable.

I have been thinking about building a sals front for a while. my plan was to use a 30 spline diff center with Dana 44 shafts and U-joint inside a Rover swivel ball.

Thanks for sharing this information. I want to make some custom front axle shafts for my 109 when I install a locker. I figure $500 for a set of front custom shafts (minus the joints but I'll be using U-joints so hopefully 760's will fit!).

instead of going with seriestrek or GBR?

                              Painted the 109 Keswick Green

I decided after much thought to go with Keswick Green even though its a defender color. It turned out well for a rover and I dig the color.
