Spent Sunday replacing my busted binnacle with a Raptor Engineering Steel Binnacle. Needed to fab up attachment points on the side of the instrument panel. In the process I found out why my Fuel and Water Temp gauges always act weird. They are straight feeds off the senders. No attachment to the voltage stabilizer.

Not today but yesterday evening I met the truck that brought the new (old) 1957 Series 1. Given it was a large carrier it couldn't get to the house so I met it off the freeway a couple of miles away. Given that it was late it was after dark. Given that I am working my way in Roverland from newer to older I had no clue how to crank a Series 1. Given that the previous owner loaded the truck with an empty tank when I finally had groped around in the dark and figured how to crank it it wouldn't fire and run. At that moment parked on the wrong side of the road with a seemingly doa 55 year old truck I realized what a stupid idea buying a third actually was.

When my son showed up with 5 gallons of gas and the truck fired and ran like a watch and I had driven it home I realized what a great idea it was to get a third. And I realized how badly I need to replace the rock hard 35 year old bias ply tires on the Series 3 as the newest oldest had a cushy ride by comparison. (lazy and stupid I know but so far I haven't been driving it much. I need to dismount the tires and have the wheels blasted and powder coated before remounting new tires)

So now it sits in the driveway next to the D-90 and the S3 in better shape that I could have hoped for. I am really looking forward to going through the truck this weekend and sorting it out and of course starting to spend time and money.

Started the dash dismantle to move the Speedo to the (American) driver's side. Also came to an agreement with swmbo about funding, she has agreed that if I change the color she'll start funding what needs to get done to get on the road, we agreed on Mid-grey, at least it's not going to be green, every Land Rover I've ever come across here in the States is green. She went right out and bought the paint for me, so it looks like I'll be sanding and masking this week to prep for paint.

SWMBO is taken from the novel by H. Rider Haggard titled "She". Its a sorta sci fi fantasy story. I read it about twenty years ago so I don't remember the details of it, but I did enjoy the read. A real ripping yarn, up there with Hornblower, Jack Aubrey, Sharpe and Jason Bourne. The She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed thing was made popular in the "Rumpole of the Bailey" TV series aired on PBS back in the 90s. Rumpole used the term when referring to his wife.

after 3+ years of sitting on the shelf I decided it was finally time to install the rocky mountain spin on oil filter adapter to the 109, knocked it out in about a half hour. It deserved a treat after taking my dad and I nearly to Canada last weekend.

Canvak'd the top on my 109 today. Glad I did it in a deserted parking lot next door to my Condo. Those mineral spirits are SMACZNY! And seeing my overspray, I probably would have been apologizing to a neighbor or two.

Started dismantling the interior, sanded and painted the seat box, next will be the fire wall and the behind the seats area. Then move on to the exterior. Hopefully within the next 2 weeks, all of the painting will be done, and the whole thing put back together. Oh, BTW does anyone have an extra rubber boot for the hand brake kicking around? One is decent nick if possible.
