I drained and pulled my tank off last night to get it cleaned and sealed this week. I made a rare wise decision to get a pump siphon to drain the tank with-that saved me a lot of trouble. The tank looks pretty good inside save for a bunch of loose crud-i.e. I don't see rust or old gummy fuel. As nature will dictate there was one badly seized bolt holding the tank that I had to drill out but overall it went pretty smoothly. Next up-clean and paint the seat brackets and install new seats!
What did you do to your Rover today?

I jump started it and pulled it out on the driveway to recharge it .
Then I tested out 4 types of 'limestone' paint for it.73 SIII swb 139 CI, rochester carb

Got the head back on the 65' 109, started her up and she caught on the 2nd try! Most likely it would have caught on the first try if I had re-attached the high tension lead from the coil to the distributor but I can't honestly prove that.
Finally I will be able to drive it a bit! Drove it to the house in 2005 and for the most part it has just sat there since!

got the motor pulled out with little trouble. its amazing how much easier it is to work on when you can get to anything with ease...Last edited by masonater; 02-14-2011, 09:41 PM.1970 Series IIA 109 EX-MOD

set the ambi on jack stands, set the points, cleaned the sediment bowl, sprayed some carb cleaner, hooked up a battery, switch on the ignition, hit the starter and after a year of sitting...it still sits. no spark, will try a new coil next. had some more beer, pulled the front r tire, and the drum didn't want to come off so drank some more beer'64 Series IIA 88 Canvas Tilt

Today I moved the license plate from the tub to the lower tailgate. This involved installing a special swinging plate (sourced from eBay UK) and then wiring a new tag light. The hardest challenge was snaking the electrical lead through the hollow tailgate. I now need to get a couple of grommets to plug the holes in the tailgate... The part sourcing never ends.1979 Land Rover Half-Ton GSComment

Finished replacing the rear output shaft seal, drove it around a bit then parked it and drank beer. Checked the garage floor this morning and NO LEAKS (well at least from that area). Ordered two new leaf springs and 4 shocks from our hosts...that should be fun.04 Disco, Gone-Disco died & so did mine

Heater hose
Not today, but a few days ago, I replaced one of the nubbin's heater hoses on my Stage One.
On a test drive to verify that I fixed my top end oil leak I noticed water squirting and dripping under the bonnet. A quick tear down revealed that I must have overtightened an already worn out heater hose.
That blasted leak completely drained the entire system (plus 2 litres of water I added to it) on the drive home.
... and I have to ask!!! Why did Nigel and Liam design and build the stoopid Land Rover with heater hoses that plug into 3/4" pipes on one end and 1/2" pipes on the other? This makes it so you can not easliy put an auto parts store standard piece of heater hose in its place.

steam cleaned the entire rolling chassis along with the motor and it came out nice and oil free. Finally saw the original paint color on the engine...that was coolLast edited by masonater; 02-14-2011, 09:41 PM.1970 Series IIA 109 EX-MOD
