I have been lurking on the RN Forum for a few years now and finally bit the bullet. I will be asking alot of noob questions in the future.

Just joined EMLRA, pretty excited to find out the history of my 109. Wonder what kind of stuff they can dig up?

Today, I built up my swivel balls and housings some of the way.
I ran taps through all of the housing threaded holes and ran a die over the bolts.
I installed the Railco bushes in the swivel balls.
I installed the cups for the bottom bearings in the swivel balls.
I went through the process of getting the correct shim thicknesses for the correct swivel preload.

            Rear soft top hold down

Been getting tired of messing with rope and the time to un-tie / tie back the rear soft-top flap of my 61 ser-iia/defender hybrid each time I wanted to roll it up on a nice day... so finally did something about it :
            - ran a flat stainless metal strip lengthwise through the bottom loop opening under the eyelet tie-down holes (bottom of soft rear flap_
            - friend helped to fabricate a metal bracket to accommodate a spare set of rubber hood latches I had, holes aligned to bolt to soft top where orig eyelet holes were
            - laser cut 'defender' into the fab'd part just for the hell of it
            - rivot on in 5 min
            - no more more
            - opens/closes in seconds now

Please do!! I'm looking at installing one as well. That level of heat isn't necessary here in SC, but the GF will insist.

for what they wanted for a replacement motor
and the fact that my blower housing is all rotted out
it was the only way to go. i saw a posting on land rovers only page where some did this on a series 3. looked good. just have to get around to getting those defender seals in
you know they have been sitting in the back of my 88 for about a year now.

Ha! He'll get to spend my first 2-3 months with it. Doing a complete disassemble repaint among a few other things. It currently is stripped of all paint...still deciding between limestone, bronze green and medium grey.

Measured up shafts for the front salisbury. Have to send them back to moser for a little re work. Contemplating a front Dana 60 again.
