Well, I got a little more done today. The deer flies almost ate me for lunch though so it was no fun. First, I decided to do a little investigation. The bumpstops for the back axle were a little swelled and I suspected rust packed between them and the chassis. So I cut them off.

One even had a hole.

I cut away the old steel so that there will not be a rust sandwich in future and made two new ones. I will weld these all the way around and that should be the last of that in my lifetime.

Then I got back to the dumb irons. I got them mocked up with the jig and the joints figured out and marked.

I trimmed the noses and made the critical cuts.

It is hanging from the cross holes at the textbook location. It fits pretty good.

And from the outside.

I got both the left and right sides done this far along.

Tomorrow, I need to make backing plates for plug welds. I also need to but the braces in the nose of the dumb irons and drill the bumper mount holes. Then I can weld up the dumb irons and tack them in position and hopefully welded up.
